Dan Hanley Named Deputy Director of Johns Hopkins ICTR

October 3, 2019

The Brain Injury Outcomes (BIOS) Division’s own Dan Hanley, MD, has been named the Deputy Director for Support and Innovation in Multicenter Trials at the Johns Hopkins Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR). In this additional position, Dr. Hanley will be responsible for supporting the clinical trials of Johns Hopkins researchers to help them develop their discoveries into solutions that can help save lives.

Dr. Hanley has been the BIOS director since he founded the division in 1999. Since its beginning, the division has grown in size and scope. Under Dr. Hanley’s direction, BIOS provides dedicated and reliable support for complex multicenter trials for both domestic and international research teams. Over the years, work has also expanded to include trials focused on areas other than the brain. With Dr. Hanley’s leadership, this diversification of BIOS’ portfolio of trials has contributed to the division’s breadth of knowledge, and we hope this development will continue in partnership with the ICTR.

In 2017, BIOS, the ICTR, and the Tufts University School of Medicine were tasked with creating one of three Trial Innovation Centers (TICs) with a seven-year, $25 million grant from the National Institutes of Health’s National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS). Work on study design and multicenter trial management with the TIC has established BIOS as an asset for investigators at Johns Hopkins and beyond. We hope that Dr. Hanley’s new connection with the ICTR will expand access among Johns Hopkins researchers to BIOS’ expertise in multicenter trials.
